Nostalgia & History > N&W in the MidwestDate: 11/06/17 19:16 N&W in the Midwest Author: BNSF-6432 Here's a little series of some of the few N&W trains my dad captured before the NS. Living in Oklahoma at the time N&W was a difficult railroad to catch. The line to Kansas City provided an exception as he often took railfan trips toward that direction. A few of these are my first attempts at "adding a sky" through Photoshop
1) In Decatur, IL some GE's wait for assignment June 1978 2) An N&W SD40 leads a pair of UP SD40s on a westbound through Kansas City December 1981 3) An N&W SD45 is paired with a UP GE in Kansas City on another westbound 12-81 Date: 11/06/17 19:23 Re: N&W in the Midwest Author: BNSF-6432 4) In March 1983 another mix of N&W/UP power takes a train by Old Union Depot
5) The tower operator watches the same freight rolling by 6) In the same month, an eastbound passes through Birmingham, MO Date: 11/06/17 19:28 Re: N&W in the Midwest Author: BNSF-6432 7) The rear of an eastbound leaving Birmingham
8) My first attempt at the sky, which turned out a little fake looking, but a eastbound through Hegewisch near Chicago July 1983 9) During a 611 fan trip, a westbound rolls through Moberly while 611 takes a spin on the turntable behind the photographer August 1983 Date: 11/06/17 19:32 Re: N&W in the Midwest Author: BNSF-6432 10) The next month, September 1983, an eastbound rolls through Birmingham
11) Also in September 1983, a westbound is in Des Moines with five 4 axle units Daryl McGee photos PQM Date: 11/07/17 10:53 Re: N&W in the Midwest Author: Englewood Very nice, thank you for posting

Date: 11/07/17 16:30 Re: N&W in the Midwest Author: Milwaukee Nice to see photos of trains going down 11th Street in the Kansas City Bottoms area in several of the photos. No tracks there now as trains take a more direct route to the UP in Kansas City, Kansas a few blocks to the north.
