Simplicity - Allegheny 2102

Sometimes I go through a box of "Seconds" and find a savable photo. This image was about 3/4 of an inch on the original slide but came out nicely using Lightroom and Photoshop.
Allegheny 2102 (Ex-Reading 2102) is at an unknown location in either Ohio or Pennsylvania on April 30, 1977.

Very nice photo even though I hated to see this engine operate as anything but as Reading.

What is the "E" n the front of the engine, looks like it is attached to the Reading plate?

Looks like an attempt to recognize the "E-L", i.e. Erie-Lackawanna, logo. Maybe they are operating on E-L track?

Does the fact that the locomotive is operating not trump what is written on the tender?

Isn’t this the one R&N is restoring?

I was told the "E" was there for EL because it was operating on ex-EL trackage.
