Nostalgia & History > Massillon Monday - B&O 6491Date: 11/13/17 00:04 Massillon Monday - B&O 6491 Author: refarkas A fine layer of dust has gently weathered B&O 6491. She sits in front of the B&O Massillon, Ohio freight station in June 1973.
Today the B&O, Chessie System, the Massillon freight house and its tracks are all gone. This is now an empty weedy area where the last of the ex-B&O tracks is now the mainline of RJ Corman as it heads through Massillon. Bob Date: 11/13/17 03:47 Re: Massillon Monday - B&O 6491 Author: kgmontreal And a GP18 to boot.
KG Date: 11/13/17 06:18 Re: Massillon Monday - B&O 6491 Author: Notch76 Its a shame how the railroad landscape has been altered I grew up in Lorain Ohio where the Ex Nkp crossed the B&O 90% is now gone

Back to my cave.. YY Date: 11/13/17 10:08 Re: Massillon Monday - B&O 6491 Author: krm152 That is a very nice 3/4 front roster photo of B&O GP9 #6491 in Chessie scheme that I liked very much.
For the record, B&O did own one GP18, it was #6599. ALLEN Date: 11/13/17 10:32 Re: Massillon Monday - B&O 6491 Author: penncentral74 A B&O source I found states that 6491 was heavily damaged in a wreck and received a GP18 carbody via EMD rebuild. I think it was a Franken-unit because it maintained it's 36" fans instead of the 48" fans found on late GP9's and GP18's.

Bob Date: 11/13/17 14:11 Re: Massillon Monday - B&O 6491 Author: WrongMain Whatever the heck it is, this is a great shot of a good looking working high hood. You caught it the right way, too, long hood forward, the way the B&O operated them. The Chessie System scheme was hard to beat when it was clean, just as this shot demonstrates.
