I have often wondered, and never thought to ask, but does anyone know how the newly-fledged BN handled the disposition of the rather unique metal signage with the new GN corporate logo and name that were affixed to handrails as seen in the SD shot? Did they just junk them? They would have made an excellent collectible but I have never seen one on the Railroadiana "aftermarket".

The handrail signs are steel, probably not a one man operation to remove, carry and load hanging out the back of a pick up. They also had a scrap metal value.

I saw one of those big GN signs for sale at a train show in Helena, MT in the 1980s. Man, was it heavy! And the steel cutters hadn't done a nice smooth job around the edges, so picking it up with anything other than leather gloves was not a good idea.

Is BN B-6 in private hands now, and has it been rebuilt
back into a private car?

The paint scheme is pretty cool too. :)

The metal handrail signs disappeared quickly after the BN merger. Had to wonder why so fast and what happened to them. I would have liked one to put on the side of my house, similar to the Izzak Walton Inn. BSB

I was able to get one of the BSB signs. It was a fiberglass sign in a steel backed frame. Don't know if it came off a locomotive or an auto rack.
