A Busy Day at CUS 1967
Author: BNSF-6432

Frank Tribbey seemed to catch quite a bit of action in a short span of time near Chicago Union Station, which wasn't exactly too hard to do prior to the end of the mail contract and eventually Amtrak. Here's a few inbound trains and also busy mail transfers at work in 1967.

1) The California Zephyr winds through puzzle switches to a platform pulled by three E7's while an IC job brings a string of PRR boxes to Polk Street passing a PRR job of its own with baggage cars

2) A rear view of the CZ and the IC job

3) An E8 leads a second section(?) with an FM switcher and PRR switcher stationary

4) A two car commuter train comes in while the IC job backs out, and a MILW job heads out for 16th street

5) A look at the IC switcher and caboose racing the MILW job

6) What was hiding in the upper right corner of pic 4, an inbound GM&O train passes the two jobs with an E and F combo

Terrific photos, thanks. Train in photo 3 looks like one of the Twin Cities Zephyrs.

Wow, the amount of Chicago railroad history you have in these series of photos is awesome.
Just looking close at each photo brings out so much information.
The various railroad's switch engines. The various passenger cars including as what appears as a Pennsy painted in UP/Milw colors.
And of course the massive Pennsy Freight House in the background. I remember them having one "Heck" of a time bringing that one down.
And the GM&O F-3 with the E-7. I remember those trains flying thru my home town of Lockport.
Feel free to post more and tantalize out imaginations of a way back machine.

Plenty of interesting details in every photo.

The Zephyr looks like it's been through some tough winter weather.

thanks for posting.

Photo 3 looks like either the Afternoon or Morning Zephyr. Notice the home built dome in the consist, evidenced by the rectangular glass.

Given the relative time of day these photos were take, which I'm guessing at, I
would say it's the eastbound "morning Zephyr." These photos are why Rosevelt(sp)
Road is a must stop in every railfans life.
