(2) Way out on the west side were SDP45 3646 and U36C 3316

Thanks for bring an EL smile.
Your first image is my favorite. It goes to show that almost anything could be found in front of the diesel shop. The SD45 with E8A lashup is a good example.

Four E8's took the last train west out of Marion on March 31, 1976.

Did it also keep the second headlight until the end? Around 1973 I remember seeing an ex-Lackawanna E8 at Croxton one night waiting to be put on the SLCB that had the red Mars light lit.

How ironic - the last train I saw on this visit (a few weeks before Conrail) was a westbound leaving the yard with four E8 units.
