Helpers everywhere.

On the left, a pair of SD40-2's are heading back down to Altoona for another "push".
To the right, and heading to Conemaugh, is an SDP45 / SD35 set.
It takes plenty of horsepower to keep it moving on the "Mountain".
Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, July, 1984.

Back at Cresson helper base, it's kind of quiet. AN SD40 / SD45-2 set relaxes.
Everyone else is out working.
The helper pit is actually a wye so sets can move in the direction they're needed.
There's a single stall engine shed and a sand tower.
Conrail's Pittsburgh Division mainline is in the foreground and directionally speaking, Pittsburgh is to the
left and Altoona to the right.
BTW, the 6290 is ex-CNJ.
July, 1987.

Nice photo's. Excellent shot with MO tower. You'd definitely get called in if you tried that angle in number 2 today

Very nice photo series. I've never seen photos of the helper base at Cresson before.
