Probably in the winter of 1969-70

A westbound GTW at 139th St. in Blue Island.
This is the east (compass south) end of the GTW
yard in Blue Island. The yard office / depot is out
of sight to the right in the vicinity of the small
support buildings.

This is the same location pictured in a previous post
when the eastbound Mohawk stopped to pick up a car.

Nice view; I had forgotten how much the Trunk had going on there.
The track next to the reefers on the Rock transfer I believe is the
Spudhouse Lead, which continues on to the plant at North Harvey.

I was always curious on how the Spudhouse Lead (and Curve) got it's name. I always assumed it was because of the nearby Libby Cannery. Upon further research, Englewood stated in a 2015 post that it may have been named for Albert Miller Warehouse. I searched further and indeed in 1920 a person named Albert Miller had a 50' x 200' warehouse built in Blue Island to store potatoes! Who knows---maybe he planned to sell the spuds to Libby??
