Nostalgia & History > Musical Electric EngineDate: 02/15/18 12:06 Musical Electric Engine Author: Krokodil I have been spending the last couple of weeks digitizing all my older video and put them on the you-know-who-tube for general consumption, most of the US but also some from Europe. I came across this scene, where a German ICE trains produces musical sounds while accelerating out of Frankfurt in September of 1992. Has to do with with the AC conversion, but I seems to be engine specific as I do not hear it with other ICE trains. Later in 1998 Siemens (also developer of the ICE train) developed the Taurus series of engines, well known for their musical display, apparently the developers decided that a harmonic tonal increase over close to two octaves was the most pleasing sound during acceleration.
