Please pass along appreciation to Mr. Hallendorf for allowing these to be posted! This is some of the best and most comprehensive footage of SP ops in the Bay Area I've ever seen. Absolute treasures!

Thanks to you and to Mr. Hallendorf for posting this fascinating series. What I found most interesting in this clip was the hopper car unloading machine. The thought that came to mind is this... I could not tell from the short clip how the cars get uncoupled before they get rotated. Would anyone know how that was done? Thanks in advance. Bob Phelps Date: 02/16/18 06:59 Re: Tom Hallendorf Movies, SP Commutes, Oroville Dam Railroad, 19 Author: train1275 Well worth watching !!
Those were rotary dump cars and the dumper supposedly could handle 10,000 tons / hour. I think were 170 cars in the fleet for this project. I've heard the dumper and other equipment went to Australia after Oroville was finished. Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 02/16/18 07:06 by train1275. Coal trains on most RR had the same equipment.
