What does an old Alco have to do with modern technology? Actually it's the picture of the old Alco I'm amazed with.
I used to live in Loma Linda, California not far from West Colton, the location of this scene of said old Alco. But back then (1978-1984) the only camera I had was an Instamatic. One day in 1979, my cousin drove me to the SP yard at West Colton to maybe get some photos from one of the overpasses that straddle the yard. Sure enough, I took a picture very similar to this one of an SP Alco Century unit working the yard.
Almost forty years later, I was able to buy a much better photo, this uncredited slide, thanks to the miracle (at least to me) of online auctions.
