Although I was in the Artillery in the 2nd Armored Division (1965 & 1966), those look like the M48 tanks that they had HUNDREDS of. Author: RickL M60A1 Patton, the standard tank of the European cold war era, and the successor to the post WWII M48. The shape/curve in the turret is the spotting id.

Thanks, as those LOOKED like the tanks we had in Fort Hood, Texas (home of both 1st and 2nd Armored Divisions), back in 1965 and 1966, but I just didn't know the CORRECT model. Thanks again. Date: 02/19/18 20:57 Re: RRS (11): FGE Solid Gold, GW gon plow, DODX flat (not tank!) Author: RickL They were very similar, and the M60 was actually a direct modification of the M48 design. Just a bigger turret & turret ring for the larger gun and very different driving controls. The M48 started out with a 90mm gun and eventually went up to a 105mm. The M60 used the 105mm, with variants up to a 152mm.

Apparently the M60 model tank came out much later, i.e. after I was discharged, and returned to work. Date: 02/20/18 07:18 Re: RRS (11): FGE Solid Gold, GW gon plow, DODX flat (not tank!) Author: RickL I suspect you're right. Its just before my time (late seventies) but the M48As were still in use in Vietnam. I'm sure all M60 production would have gone to Europe.
