Nostalgia & History > Green Mountain Man .... wonder what he's thinking?Date: 04/04/18 06:40 Green Mountain Man .... wonder what he's thinking? Author: valmont Maybe 'I think I should back up a bit'?
I took this shot on Oct. 9, 1975, but didn't note the location ... any ideas? Date: 04/04/18 07:58 Re: Green Mountain Man .... wonder what he's thinking? Author: refarkas Considering the man and the building behind both look to be straight up, that caboose really is at a significant angle! My vote is for him to back up.
Bob Date: 04/04/18 12:40 Re: Green Mountain Man .... wonder what he's thinking? Author: rrman6 That's a real classic caboose! Slatted wood steps, triple pane cupola windows, an existing roof walk, plus double-sheathing. Not sure what the man's thoughts may be, but I'd envy him for a ride in this old gal. Thanks for the pic. Bet the #41 has met its "maker" long ago...so sad!

Knowing the Green Mountain it was probably stashed on some back track in the North Walpole NH yard....not sure those guys ever scrapped anything:-) Dave Date: 04/04/18 15:20 Re: Green Mountain Man .... wonder what he's thinking? Author: wabash2800 I believe I recall seeing one at Chester, Vermont in the early 1970s when Steamtown was still active in Vermont.

Author: march_hare With lanterns on it, I would bet that car was still in service. The VTR's version of the Rutland caboose was still very much alive when I encountered in 1977.
No idea on the location, though. |
