Temporarily re-trucked RSD15
Author: Korigaoka1811

I never saw a RSD15 in road freight service on the Santa Fe, I was little too late for that party, but I did get to see and photograph a few in disrepair in San Bernardino. In 1977 Santa Fe had an open-house at the engine shops and I saw this RSD15 in a somewhat embarrassed position. It believe it was waiting to be re-engined and rebuilt for hump service at Barstow.

Sorry to say, alligator 9848 was neither repowered into a CRSD20, cut down into a slug, sold to another railroad, nor even made into a handbag. It was retired in 1974, and despite apparently lingering on the property for at least three more years, it was eventually cut up.

It might not move fast with those trucks, but it would pull everything in the yard in one shot.

Plenty of room for Fred and Barney to lay down some mean tractive effort.
