Nostalgia & History > Chicago Surface Lines Car 225Date: 04/08/18 18:38 Chicago Surface Lines Car 225 Author: MartyBernard This streetcar was built in 1908 by the Pullman Car Co. and retired in 1957. It now resides at the Seashore Trolley Museum, Kennebunkport, ME. When I volunteered there in the summer of 2012 I did a little work on the floor. As a kid, there is an outside chance I rode in it.
For details about the car see: https://collection.trolleymuseum.org/collection/national/68 I took these 5 photographs on July 3 2012. A comment on the "Car Card" in Photo 3. These advertising cardboard cards snapped in place along the interior roof lines of transit vehicles. I photographed every one in CSL 225 and will post them. Enjoy, Marty Bernard Edited 3 time(s). Wonderful restoration. No spitting! The museum makes history come alive.
Now if we could just get the entrenched interests of our current society (oil, auto, hwy. construction) pushed aside, so we could have current public transportation...... Isn't the preferred location of the trolley pole wire contact location approximately over the truck location? The last picture shows a bit of a strain. Think about the retriever rope. Think about guiding the shoe or wheel through a overhead frog.
