a shiny E7, but is that 'graffiti' on the rear side??
Author: valmont

I took this shot on Dec. 29, 1970 @ Denver. E7A #9924 is looking for all the world like a CB&Q E7A, but no, #9924 has a small lettering addition (and a new #, as it was formerly CB&Q #9937A) ....

Guess it would be a stretch to call that side panel lettering graffiti (as a devoted CB&Q 'historian' told me he now calls it) ... since it wasn't a random act.

Nicely composed roster photo. Those stainless panels really enhance that E7's appearance.

Darn taggers attacked all those units in the early 70s. They returned about 10 years later too. :(

What makes you think graffiti is "unplanned"?

yes, but I always thought the silver paint on the front was weird. The pre-war units were stainless from head to toe.

I agree, concerning the painted silver (bright aluminum) fronts, especially since all the CB&Q E7 units were delivered WITHOUT any stainless steel side panels. The CB&Q began adding the stainless steel side panels as some of the units were "processed" through West Burlington Shops (not all of the E7 units received the stainless steel side panel treatment).

Being a big stainless fan, I think the addition of these side panels to be a great visual improvement....even if there is a mis- match look to the arrangement.
