Almost looks like the units have silver or light gray trucks. Might have been done just for the photo.

No, not just for the photo. There was a period in the fifties where NYC painted their diesel locomotive trucks silver (mostly passenger units).

Great shot. Was their a third main line in there that was removed? Notice ties and debris.
