Date: 04/25/18 07:44 Re: RRS(43): MILW (3), ATMX, UCLX, UP Author: fbe It is a flanger with a set of blades which drop down between the rails to remove the snow below the tops of the rails. This one only works in a single direction while others had two sets of blades and were bidirectional.
These flangers were recycled from steam engine tenders by the ever resourceful Milwaukee Road. AEC used them to haul barrels of low level nuclear waste such as rags and cans of liquids to storage. The MILW moved the cars regularly to Hanford, WA.
