Were these guys getting ready for a trip up the NWP or readied to head back south?

Good thing that OSHA didn't see this... no fall protection!

I'd say that Bob has some of the best photos around showing the rare to find middle section of the NWP, not just in quality, quantity, exposure and composition but the subjects chosen are very worthy. Some of the station photos, the budd car ride, the caboose ride, not just can not be repeated but also show the wonders of the day, the wonders of discovery. Not to mention the technical quality of the exposure and then the reproduction in scanner (and product selection) and meticulous care in Photoshop and avoiding that nasty TO compression s/w.

These are mostly medium format negatives, the typical method of documenting at the time was to scratch the date and place on the negative border somewhere. Another round of de-caf for not having done that.

Having known Bob for a while the method of triggering dates is what camera or what car was there for the photo, sometimes who was the President. Outside of that, early 60's sounds good to me.

Hopefully if one was to fall forward, that gigantic headlight would catch them!
