SP Century leads BN Passenger Train
Author: YukonYeti

Gentlemens....

In digging through a pile of old prints in the back of the cave, I came across this photo..(Apologize for the quality of the image.)

I am speculating this was taken, in Spokane, immediately after the merger when SP Centuries were leased to the BN.

Looking forward to any information anyone is willing to lend..

In a cave, under a glacier..

Sure looks like Spokane (the GN depot), w/eastbound Western Star. Bizarre power combo, regular power must've had issues.

Sure is a prototype for everything. Thank you for sharing another classic from the cave.

That had to be one rough ride. Those Tri-Mount trucks were rough riders in freight. On a passenger train... wow.

That deserves a very rare rating...for sure.

Seem to remember something about the SP leasing out their Alco's for a very short time. The SP&S Shops sent them back pretty quick. SP sent them into storage.

They went to Texas in 1970

That would be the westbound Western Star in Spokane. The GN Depot was on the south side of the tracks. Thanks for sharing the photo!

Maybe SP thought that the SP&S guys would fix up their ALCOs?

Yukon,

Great photo! (and a very rough ride!) This image was in Pacific News Magazine (back when it was in the small format as I recall) in the early 1970's...

Thanks again for sharing it!

Best wishes,

ShastaDaylight
