Nostalgia & History > Mike Ondecker Photo - B&M 1734Date: 06/21/18 17:40 Mike Ondecker Photo - B&M 1734 Author: refarkas Today BNSF and UP can be seen coming through Akron, Ohio, but fifty years ago Boston and Maine could be seen.
In 1968, Mike Ondecker caught B&M 1734 heading east on the EL past the EL passenger station in Akron, Ohio. Bob Date: 06/21/18 19:29 Re: Mike Ondecker Photo - B&M 1734 Author: CPR_4000 I thought just EL and D&H were in Dereco. Was B&M, also?

Date: 06/22/18 07:50 Re: Mike Ondecker Photo - B&M 1734 Author: march_hare There were several attempts to establish power pools between B&M, D&H, (plus or minus EL) through the late 1960s and 1970s.
Most of the pools that involved B&M were short-lived, only a few months as I recall. But the D&H/EL ones survived right up until Conrail in 1976. The merger picture was kinda murky during that period. Prior to Dereco, Buck Dumaine tried to put together mergers that would have included at least B&M and D&H, and I think one of the attempts also included EL. Even as late as 1978, after Conrail but prior to the Guilford takeover, the B&M/D&H pool was re-established. Date: 06/23/18 05:45 Re: Mike Ondecker Photo - B&M 1734 Author: DavidP march_hare Wrote:

Possibly because the B&M’s most modern power at the time was six GP18s, while the EL and D&H continued to buy higher horsepower second generation units throughout the sixties. The B&M’s first second-gen units were the 200-series GP38-2s acquired in 1972. Dave Date: 06/23/18 13:27 Re: Mike Ondecker Photo - B&M 1734 Author: sums007 pennsy3750 Wrote:
