Albuquerque Depot at Train Time
Author: Hou74-76

According to the Albuquerque History Center, construction began on the railroad depot and complex in 1901. And in 1902 the Fred Harvey, Alvarado Hotel opened. Between the hotel and depot was the Indian Building, where visitors could see Indian artisans at work and buy their wares. In 1937 the tracks were raised or elevated to allow for the Central Avenue underpass which is why there is the pit like feeling by the Fred Harvey News Stand. In the background first #18, the low level coach and Pullman section (the Super Chief) has arrived and allowed passengers to dash off to the news stand.

The photo is a Polaroid print taken in the summer of 1967. Over the years it was heavily damaged but somewhat healed by Photoshop recently.
