All Three images were taken on August 25, 1973. This is the Rock Island Yard located in Herington, Kansas.

Top image-Train 01-24 is sitting on the westbound main in the yard. It came into the yard with four units. The switch crew took off one unit. They are making their air test. For you old time Rock Island fans-Train 01 was known as 91 before the changing the freight numbers.

Center image-The 01 train is leaving Herington for Pratt, Kansas. This crew was based in Pratt and they ran to Herington and then layover until they were called going home. Maybe if Larry Byers reads this he can tell us what the building on the left side was at one time.

Bottom image-Train 27A is leaving Herington for Caldwell, Kansas. This crew was based at Herington and they ran to Caldwell and returned on a north bound train. I have posted an image of the power sitting in the round house in Herington a day or so ago.
The power is 1250-1220-1313-1259-123. If I remember correctly, all the geeps were painted in different paint schemes. I was standing on the freight house dock to get this image. You can see on the right side the old two story stone passenger depot.

Lance, see what a difference of three years can mean? If you were a few years older, you could have see these trains!!!!

01 was a Chicago to SP Tucumcari piggy back train that by that time was being filled with general freight too. We used to get that train's call for about 7am in the morning at the 16th Street piggy back yard.

01 was the 1/GS on the SP, later GSLAF and finally downgraded to GSLAY
