Nostalgia & History > One Of My Very Few - B&O 4648Date: 06/23/18 15:53 One Of My Very Few - B&O 4648 Author: refarkas For some reason I have very few action photos of B&O F-units on the point. Here is a favorite.
B&O 4648 is westbound in Akron, Ohio in February 1973. I am standing just northeast of Waterloo Road looking back towards what is now CSX LAMBERT. The two tracks on the left are the EL mainline. The next two tracks are the B&O mainline. The line on the right that cuts over to the eastbound B&O mainline is a PC branch that goes on to Warwick, Ohio. Today only a single CSX track through here is the CSX mainline from CSX LAMBERT to CSX WARWICK. The others are all gone. Bob Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 06/23/18 15:56 by refarkas. They were painted yellow starting in 1970. Date: 06/23/18 19:32 Re: One Of My Very Few - B&O 4648 Author: EL3600 Bob, Thanks for sharing! That is a shot.

Also, like that smoking GP. ALLEN Date: 06/24/18 01:19 Re: One Of My Very Few - B&O 4648 Author: ClubCar Very nice photo of the good-ole-days with the B&O, especially seeing the F units still earning their keep,
John in White Marsh, Maryland Date: 06/24/18 10:20 Re: One Of My Very Few - B&O 4648 Author: CSX602 Wow! Great shot! I was at that crossing a few years ago and wondered what it looked like when the EL was there... Would have never guessed it was 5 tracks there (thought just 3 or 4).
Anyway, given the train location and the date, I would bet that all of those head end cars - Santa Fe covered hoppers and Trailer Train flats - were fresh from Pullman Standard in Butler, PA and making their first trips west... Something old (B&O F), something new (the new freight cars), something borrowed (either the C&O geep or the borrowed time both units are on) and something blue (the sky and both units)...
