Nostalgia & History > Maroon Monday: A Baldwin, FM, and ALCO's at 16th StDate: 07/02/18 17:13 Maroon Monday: A Baldwin, FM, and ALCO's at 16th St Author: BNSF-6432 Variety just isn't what it was 53 years ago on the mainlines. Especially as far as locomotive builders. When Frank Tribbey was parked at the 16th St tower in Chicago, IL during June of 1965 several builders of Rock Island road switcher power showed up. Between transfers and communter trains, it would have been much more difficult guessing what would show up next. It appears these all came from the same day, and Mr. Tribbey creativly included his vehicle at the time in the shots.
1) A transfer with a Baldwin leading approaches the tower at 16th St with several trailers and some freight cars. 2) Heading the same direction is a pinstriped FM switcher with a three car commuter train. 3) RS3 495 is in charge of the next three car train heading the same direction. Great images - nice 1950's era car with fins.
