Nostalgia & History > Rick Burn Found This Critter in Salt Lake CityDate: 07/11/18 23:40 Rick Burn Found This Critter in Salt Lake City Author: MartyBernard Wikipedia says, The Salt Lake, Garfield & Western Railway (SLGW), nicknamed through most of its history as The Saltair Route, is a short line railroad located in Salt Lake City, Utah. Originally incorporated as a dual passenger and freight railroad, it now provides freight-only railcar switching services to industries in Salt Lake City along its sixteen miles of track."
The railroad ran steam, then electrified, and now runs diesels. It has a interesting and very atypical history. I suggest you look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salt_Lake,_Garfield_and_Western_Railway Rick found DS-2, a GE 44-tonner, in June of 1970 in Salt Lake City. The critter is now on display at the Western Railway Museum in California. Thanks Rick, Marty Bernard Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/11/18 23:45 by MartyBernard. You can see the station on the left side.

O&W 44 tonner info :From Doug Ellison - former GM Adirondack Scenic RR Date: 07/13/18 05:25 Re: Rick Burn Found This Critter in Salt Lake City Author: atsf121 Nice Marty, I didn't know about the 44-tonner, neat little engine. I remember the red, white, and blue engine and it's down at Fillmore, CA the last time I passed through there. Current engines are interesting, though the paint schemes aren't quite as colorful.
