Rick Burn Found This Critter in Salt Lake City
Author: MartyBernard

Wikipedia says, The Salt Lake, Garfield & Western Railway (SLGW), nicknamed through most of its history as The Saltair Route, is a short line railroad located in Salt Lake City, Utah. Originally incorporated as a dual passenger and freight railroad, it now provides freight-only railcar switching services to industries in Salt Lake City along its sixteen miles of track."

The railroad ran steam, then electrified, and now runs diesels.  It has a interesting and very atypical history.  I suggest you look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salt_Lake,_Garfield_and_Western_Railway

Rick found DS-2, a GE 44-tonner, in June of 1970 in Salt Lake City.  The critter is now on display at the Western Railway Museum in California.

Thanks Rick,
Marty Bernard

Here's a photo of the original destination of that railroad at the Garfield Beach resort. You can see the station on the left side.

The "Saltair Rte." always seemed to have cool paint schemes. Here's their RWB scheme that my buddy, Mike Johnson took in August of 1979.-BMT

I promised some support data from the files of the Adirondack Scenic regarding the mystery of the 105 and 101. Chuck Rowlee the Trainmaster of Adirondack Scenic graciously kept the mechanical file and checked it out for details, sending me faxed copies of some of the information.   From our records and those of SLGW, here goes O&W 105 became SLGW DS-1 and O&W 101 became SLGW DS-2 Data from NYO&W Purchasing Dept. Nice Marty, I didn't know about the 44-tonner, neat little engine.  I remember the red, white, and blue engine and it's down at Fillmore, CA the last time I passed through there.  Current engines are interesting, though the paint schemes aren't quite as colorful.
