I always liked how many of the depots had custom freight platforms with a variety of roof extensions or seperate roof structures. I lived in Moorpark in the 80’s. Does anyone know if the feed company replica structure is still there (Where the depot once stood)?

Thanks, photobob, for this great photo of a classy SP depot.  So sad it was not preserved and in use today -- as a depot and a freight station.

The depot in this photo, a #22 Common Standard depot, was built in 1910, and was torn down in 1964.  It replaced the original 1900-built depot, which burned down in 1910.

Info from Henry Bender's excellent "Southern Pacific Standard-Design Depots,"  2013, p. 133.

Thanks Margaret for that information on Moorpark. I just post the photos and let everyone join in with their input.

Note the floodlight on the freight platform.  The fixture is attached to a bicycle style chain and is retracted to the pole by cranking.

Perhaps for bulb maintenance.

Correct.  It was retracted and then extended again.  SP didn't have bucket trucks when that was installed.
