Nothing real special here. Just a few trains passing through Colfax, Calif. on the UP Donner Pass Route 12 years ago.

I think the westbound (3rd train) was the loaded grain that now uses the Feather River Canyon Route.

Some nice footage there Jim.  Thanks for sharing.  Wonder what the tonnage was on that westbound grainer?

Biggest change today:  no more horns sound in Colfax.

Yea, pretty soon it will be hornless at Dutch Flat and Alta!

Interesting mix of loaded and empty center beams.  Never could understand empty center beams leaving California going east.

Why no more horns?  Those open box car doors look inviting for an adventurous soul.

Quiet Zone thing.  They rebuilt the grade crossing to go with it- made it more difficult to run the gates and posted signs warning there are no horns.

It's funny how UP fans used to enjoy pointing out how dirty the SP locomotives were and how UP knew how to keep their equipment clean.  Now that UP has to run it's locomotives in the tunnels of Donner, Tehachapi and the Cascade Route it too isn't looking so clean.
