The splitting up of Conrail led to power shortages on both the CSX & NS.
So, the lease units were called up to supplement both railroad's rosters.
And, of course, they added a splash of color.

National Railway Equipment (NREX) EMD SD40 870 started out as CNW 870.
Here, it's on the Norfolk Southern @ Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania.

Over on CSX, the lease units were everywhere.

CEFX (Capital Finance)EMD SD40M-2 3121 started life as Southern Pacific SD45 9001.

New Castle, Pennsylvania.

GCFX (Alstom Canada)EMD SD40-2 3062 was built as Union Pacific SD40 3107.

And lastly, HLCX (Helm Leasing) EMD SD40M-2 9034 was originally built for the Pennsylvania Railroad as their SD45 6176.

CSX couldn't get rid of them it seemed; I was shooting leased SD40s right up until 2015! I miss the Furbies (FURX) and the Bluebirds (CEFX); thanks for sharing...
