Shot From the California Zephyr in California -- Part 2
Author: MartyBernard

In January 1968 Rick Burn shot pictures from a dome on the California Zephyr in Colorado and California.  Here are five more California photos.

1. Western Pacific's California Zephyr east of Portola, CA in January 1968.

2 and 3. Shot from the California Zephyr, Portola, CA in January 1968.

4. A California Zephyr Zepherette at Oroville, CA in January 1968.

5. WP FP7 805-D with Train 17, the California Zephyr at Oroville, CA in January 1968.  805-D was traded in to EMD for GP40 3542.

Enjoy,
Marty Bernard

Note the guy on the platform wearing a business suit and a bow tie.  How many passengers do you see on trains today dressed like that?  Now you have to contend with low lifes dressed like homeless people who use the restroom on the train as their mobile meth lab.

What a great train.  What a great era.

I wish they'd hurry up and invent time travel.  I'd be back there in a heartbeat.

I think the man on the platform is Homer Bedloe. He's on his way to Petticoat Junction to shut down the Cannonball.

Great collection of shots!  Looks like photo No. 1 is somewhere just east of Reno Jct. where the Reno Branch took off from the main.
