Switcher Sunday - NYC 8407
Author: refarkas

Privately owned New York Central 8407 (Ex-Chicago River and Indiana) sits in a scrapyard in Cleveland, Ohio in the late 1960's/early 1970's.. Notice the diamond builders plate on the frame just ahead of the cab - She's a LIMA 1200 horsepower switcher not an ALCO switcher.

Great find.  Getting into scrapyards was not usually easy.
Only operational Lima left that I can think of is at the Whitewater Valley.  It is ex CUT.
Thanks for posting this photo.

Curiosity is killing me.  Where's the exhaust stack?  Did someone substitute an old oil drum?

More than likely the drum was to keep rain and snow out of the exhaust stack.

Since it was "privately owned," I wonder where it ended up? How many Limas are with us today besides the one (or two?) at Whitewater Valley?

Someone capped the stack with an emply drum of CLEPO brand metal cleaner.
