At CSX's Eastside yard, a pair of brand new CSX GE C40-8W's have locked couplers with a trio of EMD veteran's.
The RF&P GP40 & ex-Chessie GP40-2's look small next to the latest addtion to the roster.

Nice photo of what was then state-of-the-art power.  Those GE are now older than the three EMD veterans were back then.  More likely than not, those EMD's will still be pulling trains when those GE go to the scrapper, if they haven't already.

Some  of them have been returned to lessor, and are now leased to Canadian National as GCEX’s. I have several of them this passed week on the CN Watrous Sub, in Saskatchewan, Canada.  Fred

First CSX 8-40CW I ever saw (#7656 IIRC - fresh after delivery) was on a NB manifest on the RF&P...  The two units ahead of it were a RF&P GP40 and GP40-2.  The unit trailing it, nose to nose, was CSX #1066, a GP18...  #1066 looked half the size of the C40-8W.

That pedestrian bridge in the background is where I started watching trains in the 1950s.  EMD Fs, ALCo FAs and Baldwin switchers then.  Gerry
