American OE Train
Author: WichitaJct

The American version of the Orient Express was parked at Jasper (Alberta) on this day in August 2005. Two CN SD40-2s and a Ferromex (ex-Amtrak) F40 are on the point. Three years later the AOE folded. I never rode the train. I suspect it was pretty expensive. Would have been a great experience though,

rare view of the canadian operation and the f40 used going to mexico, as amtrak engines didn't stray far from the US, especially into mexico iirc

I suppose the promoters figured they could sell it at a higher price if they could make it like a high-end cruise ship on land?

What were the problems that killed the business?

2008 recession and high overhead imposed by colo railcar, and operating with amtrak and the freight railroads delays, of course under current management had it survived..
