Can't Get Enough GG-1 Photos?
Author: sig292

Love all the recent GG-1 photo postings! I want to contribute a few shots of my own. All were taken in South Amboy NJ.
1. NJ Transit GG-1 # 4882 powers a (obviously) steam heated North Jersey Coastline train on a very cold January morning in 1983.
2.  GG1 # 4882 again on a much warmer August  23, 1980 in the yard at South Amboy awaiting her next assignment.
3. NJT GG-1s # 4877 & 4883, and ex-Southern E-8 # 4330. This is New Jersey in 1981 but this photo always makes me think of Ivy City yard in Washington DC in the 1960s.

4. The crossing guard who operates the manual crossing gates takes a break as a NJT GG-1 waits for her next train. 8-23-80
5. NJT GG-1s in the fog.  5-25-83
Enjoy,

That 3rd shot is my favorite and you are right that it does remind one of Ivy City in Washington, D.C.  Thanks for sharing your photos.

All great!! No one ever gets tired of looking at GG1s! I loved South Amboy! That was such a unique operation to watch. The engine terminal was a great spot to catch G5 and Es. My personal favorite is the first one. And I agree that photo three looks like Ivy City.

Maybe I'm dreaming, but I can just about see (or maybe imagine) 5 pin-stripes in photo one. All good memories.

I think the crossing guard job may have survived as late as 1987.

I still remember seeing the restored red w/5 stripes 4877 pulling the Broadway through Paoli one evening. I couldn't believe my eyes! Then when the hind end went by it had the PRR 100 business car on it. Wow, what a blast that was!
