On this day back in 1968, the world's fastest freight train was innaugurated. Here, in a scene from 1975, the eastbound train has crested Cajon Pass led by SD45-2  5700.

Zip-zip-zoom-zoom. Didn't they start out symboled 99 & 100? Later they became 198 & 981.
