Author: warren1977

The Smithsburg, MD. railroad station has a new use, the town police station. The 5-member force moved in recently, the station is also avalable for other law enforcement to use.
The station was built of native limestone in 1895 for the Western Maryland Railway, railroad use was ended in 1970s. Building remodeled in early 1990s, a variety of businesses have been here including:
Bank, hair salon, insurance agent, telephone services, and a jewelry retailer.
Thanks to the R&LHS for info.

Always glad to see history preserved.  I see from a map that this is on the line eastward from Hagerstown toward Blue Ridge Summit PA.  Local T.O. members: is the track CSX or Maryland Midland ?  TIA

CSX, Highfield is a few miles east.
Eastbound at Smithsburg 11-25-18, CSX turns left at Highfield, MMID goes to the right.
