Today's offering was copied toward the end of the train order era and is also somewhat unique in that the railroad was/still is a short line.

On January 24,1986 Extra SOO 4444 West was cleared at Wisconsin & Southern's Muskego Yard to run extra to Rugby Jct. where the train would re-enter SOO rails, probably returning to Shops Yard (N. Fond du Lac) WI.  SOO accessed Milwaukee via trackage rights on this ex-MILW line which WSOR had acquired on 7/1/80(?).  SOO had merged with the MILW on 1/1/86 and Lake States was just around the corner on 2/10/86, so this was definitely a time of railroad upheaval in Wisconsin.

I wasn't able to locate a WSOR timetable but did find a 1978 MILW that works well with the map.  The MILW timetable shows the daily SOO freight as scheduled Third Class trains 233-234, but apparently they all operated as extras under WSOR by this time.  It is interesting to note that WSOR retained the MILW Nos 418, and presumably 419, for their own trains operating from/to Horicon.

Here's a shot of a Soo Line train at Granville, WI just a couple months later that same year.
A buddy and I finagled a cab ride on a WSOR train from Granville down to North Milwaukee yard & back, around that same time.
Times were different back then.
