Had some requests to dig up some more video of our frequent stays at the old MiraMar Hotel in Monticeto.  For those of you not familiar with this location it was a rail fan's dream, as you will see from my video shot from the beach in front to our rooms on the balcony how close the tracks were . . and I loved those old SP horns . . . anyone tell me where the Golden State PV coach is located now?

Quite the mix of phase II and III paint, typical of the mid-1980's.

Is the hotel still in operation?

Torn down years ago and left vacant through three different owners . . now a Rosewood luxury hotel on the same footprint with the coast line still runnig through the property as they have new suites on the water.  See my previous post:  https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,4707632,4707632#msg-4707632

Old SP horns. Nathan old cast P3's. Fortunately there are still a bunch in use on various mainline and shortline railroads today. (CP, and others and a lot of G&W short lines)

Unfortunately the “new” Miramar doesn’t have the easily identifiable blue roofs of the original. This might seem a small detail, but back it the day the place was often referred to as the “Blue Roofs”.

My brother in law was the roofing contractor for the new hotel- I’ve been riding him about this grievous oversite!

Did he get you a special room rate??  Going back there for at least one night on the water but the rates are like $1200 a night!!!

Ha!  Next year is our 50th High School reunion and this came up in the discussions about a venue-  "Hey, Trisha's (my wife.  We were in the same class)  brother worked on the new Miramar!  Maybe he could....   ")

Nice seeing Dave Rohr old car The Native Son on the end of the Coast Starlight

The Native Son was sold to Rail Ventures in the early 2000's, extensively rebuild and renamed Bella Vista. Bedrooms and an open platofrm were added. A few years ago it was sold to an individual in Florida.

thanks for the update . . much appreciated . . . I wondered when I shot this whether it would eventually be converted to an open platform car.
