Nostalgia & History > Holding It DownDate: 02/03/19 18:39 Holding It Down Author: overniteman The EMD FL9's held down Metro-North's commuter operation until the next version of "dual mode" locomotives were built and bought. These being GE'S P32AC-DM Genesis units.
Here's a trio of the original "dual modes". On a cold day, EMD FL9 5037 (plus the first FL9 5000) sit next to another train leaking steam from every pore. Poughkeepsie, New York. February, 1984. The Metro North commuter trains which were pulled by FL9s were the among the last, if not the last, steam heated passenger trains in the US. The ex-Lehigh & Hudson River RR bridge seen in the background of the first and third bridges has been renovated for people to walk over the Hudson River. Connected with L&HR at Maybrook. Date: 02/03/19 21:26 Re: Holding It Down Author: krm152 Like all three of your photos very much.
Most especially like Photo 1. Great scene. The Poughkeepsie River Bridge shown in Photo 1 & 3 was part of the New Haven line to Maybrook. In early May 1974, the bridge deck burned in a spectacular fire that ended its use as a railroad bridge. This severed a vital connection for the Leigh & Hudson River. In 2009, about 25 years after your photos, the bridge was restored as the Walkway over the Hudson for pedestrian use only. ALLEN Date: 02/04/19 16:54 Re: Holding It Down Author: RuleG CPR_4000 Wrote:
