SoCal history - Ontario-Upland and the Santa Fe
Author: 2-10-2

Interesting history of the Santa Fe building west from San Bernardino:
https://www.dailybulletin.com/2019/02/11/this-early-ontario-upland-developer-stood-up-to-the-powerful-santa-fe-railroad-and-won/

That might explain the slight jog north the tracks take running west along 8th St before they get to Ontario/Upland.

Interesting story, thanks for sharing as I no longer get the Daily Report, or any other for that matter.

From article:

One developer north of El Monte sold land adjacent to the San Gabriel River, boasting of the prosperity that steamboat travel up and down the river would soon bring the area.”

Jack Benny loved Azusa, Rancho Cucamonga, and San Bernardino. Used that expression frequently on the radio.

His announcer (Harry Von Zell?) Stretched it out to about 30 syllables.

I think the station announcement was done by Mel Blanc, the "Man of a Thousand Voices".  The announcer for "real" announcements was Don Wilson.

Harry Von Zell worked with Burns & Allen.

Wasn't Rancho Cucamonga back then, that was a 1980s real estate developers thing.

The phrase was "Anaheim, Azusa and Cucamonga."

Also his TV show.

Thanks for posting, I always wondered why the tracks zigged and zagged on either end of Upland like that.
