Nostalgia & History > FJ&G in West Winfield, NY 1974Date: 02/17/19 08:53 FJ&G in West Winfield, NY 1974 Author: train1275 In December 1973 the Delaware Otsego Corporation took over the Erie Lackawanna (DL&W) Richfield Springs branch. This line wandered roughly parallel to Route 20 after climbing the hill out of Richfield Jct., from Bridgewater, NY where the Unadilla Valley Railroad made interchange until 1960 and Richfield Springs a one time renown resort village in Upstate NY.
Early on, the story goes, some disgruntled being dumped sugar in the fuel tank of the ex D&H Alco RS-3 procured by DO to run this 22 mile operation known as the Central New York Railroad. Until the CNY 101, the RS-3, could be repaired, this FJ&G swithcher was the relief engine caught here by Schoonmaker Feeds in West Winfield, NY by the late Sam Reeder. It was half gone by the time I photographed it around 1988/1989... I would love to see any more photos you have that Mr Reeder took of the old Richfield Springs Branch. Thanks for sharing this.
