Nostalgia & History > CRI&P Train orders-slow!Date: 03/05/19 08:47 CRI&P Train orders-slow! Author: santafe199 This set of Rock Island train orders will surely jog a few memories for TO member ‘Bob3985’. Order #509 relates to safe & proper inspection of a train when normal visibility is restricted. And order # 556 lists the regular temporary speed restrictions at various locations. Perhaps Bob can identify dispatchers DWC, HBB & DBY.
1. Clearance form issued 3-21-71 to train #505, relating 2 train orders. 2. Train order 509 issued 3-15-71 @ 838 PM over the initials of train dispatcher ‘HBB’ by operator Adian. 3. Train order 556 issued 3-17-71 @ 1056 PM over the initials of train dispatcher ‘DBY’ by operator Harrington. Rock Island train order set cut March 21, 1971 at Chicago, IL. He was a very good dispatcher and an even nicer individual. (probably why he didn't stay as a TM!) Howard was working 2ned trick on the Illinois desk. DBY was Dave Yates. I never worked with him but he was a VERY nervious nelly! Dave was working First trick on the Illinois Desk (Office 5 if I remember correctly) In 1971, I was back from the service and working 3rd trick at Bureau. zr190 Edited 2 time(s). (chuckling) That makes PERFECT sense to a fellow rail... :^) Lance/199 Date: 03/05/19 15:53 Re: CRI&P Train orders-slow! Author: Bob3985 That was a year before I hired out in Blue Island. Those speeds aren't bad compared to what they had become by 1976 when I left for the UP.
I vaguely remember taking orders at a dispatcher's phone box from Dan Yates one time. At least his name rings a bell. Other than the order at milepost 1 the others were out about Tinley Park to about Joliet. I am trying to remember the crossover mileposts. Time to dig out an old timetable.
