Hart's Donner Pass 150 Years Later- Near Alta
Author: BoilingMan

1.   Hart's Stereo titled; SANDSTONE CUT NEAR ALTA
2.  The same spot today.  (Apx MP 155.5)
This one's not real exciting, but it's barely a 5min walk from my house, so it was kinda easy (Hey! I was busy today- ya get what ya get...   )   Hart was apparently very impressed by cuts & fills, they are common subjects of his photos.  This one is no longer a "cut".  One side was completely removed during the double tracking of the 1910's & 20's.  There's no high ground to duplicate the exact prospective Hart had.

SR,
Thanks for the comparison, quite a difference.  Great B&W BTW.  Thanks for sharing.

Do you have a color version of the contemporary photo?
IIRC there is a light buff colored formation similar to that somewhere along the line, I do not know the territory that well but maybe I do recognize this and I think one can see some of the same general formation on the right.

Here is the color version of the shot plus-
Looking down (West) from the Main Street crossing in Dutch Flat/ Alta (MP 156) you can see the sandstone bluff.

Yes, Bloomer is on the list.  I'm doing these randomly, dictated primarily by what I have going on each day..
