Nostalgia & History > Coupla unique NYC F's for FridayDate: 03/22/19 08:43 Coupla unique NYC F's for Friday Author: NKP715 Back when F units were "dime-a-dozen," you'd occasionally run
into an odd-ball. First two shots are of a WB working the NYC's East Yard in Erie PA. Third unit is the 1605, one of only two F2's the railroad ever acquired. Third photo is of F3 1801, sporting her third road number. The unit began life as the 3501, one of a group of 4 used in passenger service. Later, the 3500-3503 were renumbered at the tail end of NYC sizable F unit fleet, becoming the 1874-1877. Then she became the 2nd 1801, replacing the original which was retired, while her equipment trust was still in effect. Thus she lived on, resplendent in all of her chicken wire. These are really excellent NYC shots. Mid 60's ? Gary Date: 03/22/19 11:22 Re: Coupla unique NYC F's for Friday Author: refarkas Thanks for sharing these images. NYC Chickenwire F3's were rare by the late 1960's. I only saw a few, so these photos reminded me of those good railfan times.
