Out in suburbia, the commuter rush is almost over for the evening.
At Denville, New Jersey, New Jersey Transit GE U34CH 4175 and EMD GP40P 4105 and trains have drawn up to each other in the setting sun.

September, 1988.

Thank you.

Denville has certainly changed. New station, fencing, more parking.

Call what is at Denville now a station is very generous.  Overbuilt bus shelter would be more accurate.

Agreed, what’s there now is functional but certainly lacking in aesthetics. The former DL&W station was demolished in 1992 after a small fire in Sept 1991, despite plans to re function at least some of the space to retail (deli?) and a local “buy a brick” fund raising effort.

New paved parking area on the West side of the Boonton Line added a lot more space.

Why is a diesel driven train on the old electrified main?  I thought the diesel driven trains that went beyond Dover took the Boonton Branch.

For a wile in the 1980s, NJ Transit ran an express via the Morristown Line out to Lake Hopatcong and Netcong.  Newark, Brick Church, Short Hills and all stops west.   6625 was its number for a while. (Dover trains were 6xx in those days, so a one off 6625 made sense)
