Williams Loop early 1960's

Here's a shot I took on Williams Loop back in the early 1960's of a westbound. I believe this location is pretty much covered by trees now.

Boy, that's a blast from the past.  Love those ice bunkers.  There used to be a great camping spot amongst the trees just out of sight in the lower right.  Man, those were the good old days!  Thanks for sharing this great shot Bob.

Great spot as long as you had mosquito repellent.  That place comes alive at night.  But it sure was fun to watch trains there (still is).

Nice.
That leading F looks like it is maybe a passenger unit? (Stainless steel sides).

I've seen The Loop a dozen or so times, but only from a boxcar door- I don't recall ever visiting it on the ground.

Great camp site on the opposite side of the tunnel inside WL.
not that I used it for camping or would recommend it,.... Surrounded by trees overlooking the marsh.

an early view before tunnel portal and fill attached

In Bob's photo there's a little concrete portal over to the right side of the fill between the trees, that's where the access into the loop was. Had my truck camper in there a few times not so much to camp but to stay a few hours overnight, get some sleep and then move on. There were other car campers in there most of the time, there had been a number of places in the canyon where fisherman would camp and then drive around to other location in the morning. Suppose the elevation was a little cooler as well. Seems to me the little pond also drained at or near the road access, yep lots of mosquitoes.

Actually, it isn't covered by trees at all. This was taken April 2015.
