Fantastic footage. Thanks for sharing. 48 was the year I was born and I didn't have a camera yet, haha.

Really neat stuff! Those 30s ~ 40s era freight logos are priceless! And the reefer-icing process was interesting! I would have thought those chunks of ice were more fragile than that...

First train is powered by a Wabash M-1 4-8-2. The later scene with the troop cars and the two cabooses is also a Wabash train.

The clip starting at 3:15 is the CB&Q La Grange station. Coincidentally, my Metra BNSF train is arriving there now.

0:00 to 1:55 looks like BRC Belt Jct.  That Wabash is headed compass direction east..
Belt Jct. tower can be seen in the background. Those industry tracks were
referred to as "The Low Line" because they were at ground level.  The Monon is headed
towards Clearing. At 0:22 note the Rock Island transfer caboose with park benches on the roof.

1:55 to 2:15 looks like the area around Forest Hill.  I think 75th St. tower is in the opening
scene.  I never saw it with so many windows uncovered.  Forest Hill freighthouse.  Forest
Hill in later years was the Chicago home of The Trailer Jets !!!

2:15 is back at Belt Jct.

After the Q scene it is back to BRC Clearing yard.  The overpass in the background is either
Cicero or Pulaski.  I think the last scene with the scrap cars is behind the engine shop.

GREAT FILMS

Incredible video !  Among all the gems, catch the IC cow and calf right after the Monon caboose passes westward.
(Saw part one after seeing this one, with great video of the IC pair.)
Seeing 75th St. Tower with all the windows is a first for me.  Anything shot on the Low Line is rare, but a movie...wow.
As always, the Rock Island does the impossible... the caboose with the park benches is astounding.
I will be playing this film again many times.  Thanks for showing on TO.
And thanks to Mr. Englewood for the excellent details in both films.

KCRW287 was kind enough to send me a copy of the handwritten notes he had referred
to in his posting for part 1.  As he said they were very hard to decipher but here is my translation for Part 2::
My comments in italics.

Beginning to 1:54
Oct. 24, 1948
76th and Racine (BRC Belt Jct.)
Sand Loaders
Construction supplies

1:54 to 2:18
1949
76th and Western - Forest Hil
4 wheel crummy
Bricks

2:18 to 3:17
76th and Racine
Troop sleepers
C&EI 4-6-2- #1924

3:17 to 3:37
1949
Riverside Diesel Pass

3:37 to End
12-4-49
Yards - Cicero Ave.
Old oil tankers
R.R. Equip. Co. scrap
New C&O caboose

The note mentions a break in the tape.
After the break would have been pictures of
the Ashburn passenger station, a GT westbound and scences from Landers yard.

Somewhere in my archives I have a photo of a Rock Island train showing a brakeman riding one of those benches mounted on top of a caboose, but I can't seem to locate it at the moment. Here is a John barriger photo showing one of those cabooses at Pullman Jct.
