There's still a lot of boxcars out there because there's still freight to be moved that needs protection from the weather and from rough handling.

Try and find them without Graffiti! Taggers have ruined freight car photography for me. A brand new freight car is now a blank canvas.

I got a few pictures of FW&D 40' "slogan" boxcars , like yours, on Santa Fe freights in Southern California in the early 1980s.  They stuck out in a consist as antiquated even then.  I'd expect to see them on the BN but I wondered what they were hauling that took them to Southern Cal and back.
