GP40 215 leads. Date: 08/09/19 05:12 Re: MKT freight in Katy,Tx - Nov 75 Author: gcm (3) Eight engines powered the train
(4) Still plenty of old boxcars in '75. (5) The station was original from the Katy line construction in 1899. This was when Katy (yes, named after the railroad) was a small town with farm land and pastures between here and Houston. Today, total massive development between the two towns. The station had an agent till 1978. It still exists as a museum a short distance away. I have some detailed shots inside and out of the station I need to process. Thanks for sharing these. Really appreciate it. Jason Rose Spring, TX Rio Grande Explorations Date: 08/09/19 07:39 Re: MKT freight in Katy,Tx - Nov 75 Author: Juniata Great photos that brought back a lot of good memories of the Katy.
In the late 70’s I worked at a grain elevator along the Houston Ship Channel and we moved a lot of wheat and milo over the Katy. Great railroad and wonderful people to work with! Posted from iPhone Date: 08/09/19 08:18 Re: MKT freight in Katy,Tx - Nov 75 Author: DynamicBrake That second shot is IOTD material. One of the best "in your face" shots I've ever seen. Thanks for sharing.

In the years since, the transition to dispatching by track warrant via radio direct to the crew eliminated train orders and the operators who copied and delivered them. Consequently, the depots that housed the operators and fixed hoop stands were made redundant. Thanks for posting this interesting series. ALLEN Date: 08/10/19 06:19 Re: MKT freight in Katy,Tx - Nov 75 Author: EL833 I love a series of photos that show the way railroading was once done- these are fantastic! And I'm glad you included the boxcar and pickup trucks as well.
