Moonlight Dome in New Orleans
Author: gcm

Along with other cars mostly retired and for sale sits the Moonlight Dome (9200) on the far outside track at New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal.
Built by Budd in 1948 for the never run C&O Chessie train.
It was a 5 roomette, 3 drawing room and 1 bedroom car.
It later went to the B&O (1950) , SCL and a short stint on the CN (1966-67).

Originally built for the C&O's stillborn streamliner, The Chessie.

But thankfully, this car is the only B&O passenger car still certified and operates in charter service on Amtrak.  It is privately owned and painted in the B&O Colors it wore when owned by the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Company.

Gary,
When I was working for SCL I rode in that car.

Did Moonlight Dome have the searchlights at one end of the car at one time?

Yes they did, but who controlled them?
I can imagine beaming them into passing homes; or
oncoming traffic.
